To be honest, it is best to avoid overpriced flights and busy airports and save those trips for the summertime. So, instead why not enjoy your staycation, lay out by the pool and enjoy your family and friends. This will also keep your weekend stress-free and affordable, which is a plus. Be a tourist in your hometown
Try something new in your own city. This can sometimes be exciting for us because we rarely experience our city as a tourist. Go out and find a new activity that you have not done such as, ride bikes through a famous area of town and sightsee or try a new restaurant or bakery you’ve been dying to go too. Sometimes we forget all of the great things our hometown has to offer so go out and explore your city!
Plan your summer vacation
Since you are saving your coins by staying local for the weekend why not plan your summer travel arrangements? This is a great time to book your trip because flights and hotel will be cheaper ahead of time since it will not be during peak travel times. Although traveling longer distances can be fun, planning a local trip is another option! Some fun cities to road trip to such as, Austin, Santa Barbara, New Orleans or Washington D.C. all have great tourist attractions and nightlife depending on which part of the country you live in.
Go to a Memorial Day Parade
Even though we have a long weekend because of Memorial Day, it is important to remember the significance of the holiday. You can attend a parade to salute the men and women who have died in military service and honor those who are currently serving our country now. This is a great time to get patriotic while thanking our veterans for their service.
Catch up on rest
We’re always on the go whether it be work, school or just busy with life in general that we forget to get our full 8 hours of sleep. Instead of attending Memorial Day parties or laying out in the sun all weekend, you can use this time to catch up on some Z’s. Let’s just say you won’t regret it when Tuesday comes around and it’s time to return to your responsibilities.
Throw a Memorial Day Party
Everyone loves a good cookout with great food so kick off the summer season by hosting an outdoor barbecue for Memorial Day. Throw some burgers and hotdogs on the grill and even try a new cocktail or festive dessert recipe for the special occasion. This is the perfect way to bring old friends and family together during the holiday. Don’t forget to grab some lawn chairs and end your night with watching some fireworks in the neighborhood!
