Summer Dating Guide: New York
Hey, we aren’t bias! We love our readers on the East Coast, just as much as our readers on the West Coast. That’s why we couldn’t make a summer dating guide just for LA. Check out the official Foxxtales summer dating guide for our East Coast friends in New York City!
Where to: Eat
Nervous about picking the restaurant? Not sure what your date likes to eat? Think about getting a reservation at The Odeon. This French-New York hybrid restaurant offers a little something for everyone. Upscale yet not intimidating, The Odeon gives you a reason to dress up; but not feel like you’re trying too hard. We recommend splitting the Spicy Chicken Dumpings to start. Then, why don’t you both try each other’s entrees? Finish off with some creme brûlée to share. Perfect.
Imagine dining and drinking cocktails in the middle of a magical garden. Doesn’t sound like New York, huh? If you’re looking for an intimate vibe, we suggest hitting up Gallow Green for brunch or dinner. They’ve transformed this rooftop space into a mystical getaway loaded with awesome food & drinks. Our favorites? The woodfire pizzas. Get two and split them!
If you checked out our LA guide, you’ll see Smorgasburg on our list of summer dining musts. Well, we couldn’t leave it off our list for New York either. If you really want to enjoy the sun (while you still have it) and be totally off the hook for choosing the right kind of food, Smorgasburg is the perfect date choice. Low stress, outside and something for everyone. Fun. Easy. Romantic. Why wouldn’t you want to eat here?
Where to: Drink
Whether you’re in Union Square or by Chelsea Market, Corkbuzz Wine Studio offers two locations for you to take your date on an epic wine tasting adventure. Everyday from 12pm - 6pm, they offer a blind tasting happy hour. Start the night off right, guessing if your wine is a Malbec or Cabernet. How about winner gets the next round?
What is summer without a rooftop bar? Enjoy the summer sunshine, sipping on great cocktails at the Pod 39 Rooftop. With amazing views of the East Side, you’ll be able to star gaze while gazing into your date’s eyes. Sounds pretty great, right? Don’t worry, you won’t go hungry either. Pod 39 offers a selection of food (aka tacos) from Salvation Tacos downstairs. Food & drinks? We're in.
Another rooftop, you say? Well, we had to. We couldn’t write our list without the iconic Refinery Rooftop, located at the Refinery Hotel in Midtown. With cozy couches and beautiful string lights, Refinery will keep things romantic and cuddly forsure. You’ll be feeling that Empire State of Mind, as you overlook the perfect view of the Empire State Building. It’s definitely a great way to impress your date.
Where to: Go
Ready to get out of the city, but don’t want to go too far? Pack up a picnic and head over to Governor’s Island. Just a quick ferry ride away, Governor's Island feels like a complete escape from the city. Rent bikes and roam around this 172 acre island in New York Harbour. Forgot your food? Don’t worry. A selection of food trucks are available on the island during the summer months. Get there soon! The island will be closed starting October 31st!
The classic New York summer date night. If you’re in Manhattan, you’ll have to make a bit of a trek to get over to this Brooklyn staple. But, the carnival games, endless Nathan hotdogs, romantic walks down the pier and late night fireworks should be enough to convince you to head down. Funky. Eccentric. Classic. It’s a great way to make instant memories with your date and have lots to talk about afterwards.
A cool, twist on the classic “let’s see a movie” date. Rooftop Cinema Club opens up in the spring and runs throughout the summer. Rooftop Cinema Club boasts a few locations throughout the city; but at all of them, you can expect comfortable lounge chairs, popcorn, an option to purchase drinks, and your own personal headset. Some locations even offer “Rooftop Love Seats” which are available for two people to get cozy. Classics, like Dirty Dancing, American Psycho, Almost Famous and The Godfather, are slated for the rest of the summer.
